Bex Wilkinson, Visual Artist and Filmmaker

Ms. Wilkinson, a seasoned visual artist and filmmaker with a rich lifetime of experiences, stands out for her evocative expressionist creations. Her art, a product of profound personal encounters, is categorized into four distinct themes: political, spiritual, personal, and environmental. These themes manifest in abstract forms using acrylic paint or mixed media on canvas. Some of her pieces serve as commentary on the societal underbelly and personal struggles, addressing uncomfortable topics like the declining migrant bird populations due to human encroachment, abortion, transgender issues, and the exploitation of women.

Educated at Sarah Lawrence College, Ms. Wilkinson further honed her skills as an adjunct student at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Art Institute of Chicago. Initially immersed in painting during her youth in Vermont, she took a hiatus at the age of 25 to focus on raising her family. Subsequently, a move to Idaho led her into film production and entrepreneurial ventures.

In 2016, a personal tragedy brought her back to art as a means of coping when her second spouse succumbed to suicide. Painting became her sanctuary, aiding in the expression of emotions and facilitating the journey towards acceptance of her grief.

Ms. Wilkinson’s artistic resurgence reached its zenith with her first show in NYC during the peak of the 2020 pandemic. Successfully selling pieces, this exhibition served as an introduction pad for her career, opening doors to numerous galleries in the U.S. and Europe. She has since been featured in group art shows across cities such as New York, Chicago, Miami, Vienna, Lisbon, Madrid, and Paris, with upcoming participation in Stockholm.

Internationally recognized, Ms. Wilkinson has received multiple awards for her art and has been featured in interviews by online magazines worldwide. Complementing her artistic pursuits, she holds a Master’s in Counseling Psychology and possesses a deep understanding of Jungian Theory. Outside her professional life, she relishes moments spent with friends, family, and her beloved dogs. A yoga enthusiast, Ms. Wilkinson actively contributes to the nonprofit sector, working towards healing through the arts.
