Chair launches notice for migrant and displaced visual artists

The Sérgio Vieira de Mello Chair at Unicamp has opened registrations for the first cycle of the Rede ArteRefúgio program, aimed at migrant visual artists or those who address the theme of displacement in their production.

The objective of the project is to promote displaced artists at the beginning of their careers, putting them in contact with experts and other artists and thus facilitating their insertion into the universe of visual arts in Brazil.

The program envisages the holding of a visual arts exhibition and an artistic monitoring cycle, including activities developed together with students and researchers from the University and specialists in the field of visual arts.

A cost allowance of R$400 will be offered for transporting the works.

Artists at any stage of their career who have been impacted by displacement experiences can register – including foreigners who reside in Brazil and Brazilians who have migrated within the national territory – or who, in their artistic practice, address themes related to displacement, understood from a broader perspective.

Registration for the 1st Cycle of the ArteRefúgio Network can be made at project website, which also contains more information about the planned actions.

The ArteRefúgio Network is part of the actions of the Sérgio Vieira de Mello Chair, a Unicamp partner with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), carried out in partnership with the Cinere Research Group – Trajectories without Borders and counts with support from the Dean of Extension, Sports and Culture at Unicamp, through the Proeec-PEX 2024 notice.
