This course invites visual artists to join in a weekly group critique led by SVACE’s fine arts residency faculty and staff. Works in progress or completed artwork will be shown in a small group setting, with the choice of sharing digital images, video or physical objects. Students will receive feedback on their work, as well as professional development tips on how to present their artwork, deliver an artist’s talk and improve their artist statement. Students will provide constructive feedback to one another during the weekly sessions. Biweekly visiting guest critiques and professional development talks will be offered by artists, gallerists, arts workers, educators and curators. This course is geared toward fine artists who are working in a variety of materials and artistic practices who are interested in meeting other artists in the greater New York City area. The aim is to support visual artists who have a developed studio practice and are interested in receiving critical feedback on their work and professional development guidance.
