June Talks and Lectures at SVA | School of Visual Arts

Later that evening, join MFA Art Practice as they welcome Meg Onli, curator-at-large at The Whitney Museum, at 335 West 16th Street, 5th floor, 5:30pm. Onli will share insights from her background as assistant curator at the Museum of Modern Art Philadelphia and director and curator of Los Angeles’s Underground Museum, as well as co-curator, with MA Curatorial Practice faculty member Chrissie Iles, of this year’s Whitney Biennial.

The Storyteller’s Series continues at the SVA Library on Monday, June 17, 11:00am with New York-based production designer, art director, concept and storyboard artist Thomas Slattery (MFA 2017 Visual Narrative; BFA 2010 Cartooning). His clients include A24, Google Pixel, HighSnobiety and brands like Crocs and Tiffany’s, and his talk will delve into how he’s evolved as a creative storyteller across these varied disciplines.

Finally, the College hosts back-to-back talks on Tuesday, June 25: printmaking, collage and fibers artist Jacquelyn Strycker, at 335 West 16th Street, 5th floor, 5:00pm, and American portrait, celebrity and lifestyle photographer Kareem Black (BFA 1995 Photography), who will present an i3 lecture at 136 West 21st Street, Room 418F, 7:00pm. Strycker—who is also an SVA faculty member and director of operations and online curriculum for MFA Art Practice—was a member of the inaugural cohort of the Print Center New York’s New Voices program and, from 2023 to 2024, an artist-in-residence at the Museum of Arts and Design. Black has worked with clients ranging from TV (MTV, Netflix, Peacock) to brands (AT&T, Pepsi, Smirnoff), publishing (Popular Science, Times of London Magazine) and sports (Golden State Warriors).

This is only the start of a summer full of programming in SVA’s many spaces, from galleries to theaters and classrooms, so check back for more updates as the season continues.
