R|Short Program: K’gari Field Trip

R|Short Program: K’gari Field Trip is a workshop program conducted on World Heritage listed K’gari across 4 days and 3 nights. It offers a unique opportunity for artists to explore the convergence of art, science, technology and the environment.
The workshop program will encourage interdisciplinary thinking, collaboration and experimentation supported by cutting-edge technologies. Grounded in a respect for Indigenous knowledges, the program will offer embodied experiences and the opportunity to connect with and learn from Butchulla/Badtjala Traditional Owners.
The diverse ecosystems of K’gari are rich with cultural and ecological significance providing a unique foundation for exploring creative technologies, including spatial audio, XR, drone photography and locative media.
The program will be delivered by UniSC academics and leading artists with the support of Butchulla/Badtjala Traditional Owners.
Artists will be introduced to these cutting-edge tools opening up new opportunities for creative expression and enabling them to respond to the environment in nuanced, ethical and innovative ways.

About K’gari
K’gari is a UNESCO World Heritage site and part of the Great Sandy Biosphere Reserve, located in the Southeast Queensland Bioregion of eastern Australia. K’gari is the largest sand island in the world and home to a complex ecosystem of sand dunes and lakes with subtropical forests growing solely on sand.
About the facility
UniSC’s K’gari Research Station is a base to explore, research, learn and stay on the world’s largest sand island, offering participants the unique opportunity to explore K’gari’s unique ecosystems.
Access
The workshops will be physically active including night walking. A reasonable level of physical fitness is necessary. The group will visit sites that will feature different and uneven terrain.
