The Greencastle Arts Council, in collaboration with the Putnam County Museum, has extended its May 20 deadline for entering the Fifth Annual Putnam County Adult Visual Arts Exhibition and will continue to accept submissions through May 27.
This years exhibit, which will be held at the PCM (1105 N. Jackson St.), is scheduled to open to the public on July 13 and run through Sept. 20. A decision was made this week to allow the online portal for submission of artwork to remain open until 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 27.
With the end of the school year being such a busy time, especially for everyone in education, we opted to extend the deadline through Memorial Day to give working artists more time over the three-day holiday weekend to prepare their submissions, said exhibit co-chair and Arts Council president Suzanne Hassler, following a meeting with museum director Lisa Mock. We felt this suggestion was a good one and will plan to take the long weekend into consideration when scheduling this show in the future.
To encourage as wide a representation of talent as possible, the call for submissions is open to all adult artists, who have lived, worked, studied or were born in Putnam County. In addition to having their work shown at the museum, individuals whose pieces are selected will be considered for multiple cash awards totaling more than $1,000. The first-prize winner also receives two tickets to GACs celebratory year-end Bonne Soirée.
To take part in the exhibit, artists must be 18 years of age or older, and artworks not exceed seven feet in height or width. A $15 application fee includes submission of up to three pieces in the exhibit, a one-year Greencastle Arts Council individual membership and an invitation to the opening artist award reception at the PCM on Saturday, July 13, from 25 p.m. If the artist chooses, their work may also be offered for sale.
Interested individuals can submit their work by filling out an online application and paying their submission fee through the GAC website (www.greencastleartscouncil.org), then emailing their images to info@greencastleartscouncil.org. Alternatively, they may pick up a paper application at the museum or library, follow the instructions provided, and mail the application, along with payment, to the Greencastle Arts Council (P.O. Box 631, Greencastle, IN 46135).
After the initial review process is completed, participants will be notified and asked to deliver the works selected to the Putnam County Museum between 10 a.m.4 p.m. the week of June 2428. Additional information can be obtained by visiting the GAC website or contacting info@greencastleartscouncil.org.
