McNeese visual arts students host food drive, art giveaway

McNeese State University visual art students are hosting a food drive and art give away noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the Grand Gallery of the Shearman Fine Arts Annex.
All are invited to bring nonperishable food items and exchange them for pieces of art.
The art, ceramic fruits and vegetables, will be displayed in a manner that reminds viewers of the problem of food waste in the United States. Wasted food amounts to nearly 20 pounds per person annually in our country, according to Ken Baskin, professor of visual arts at McNeese.
The food collected will be donated to on-campus and community food banks.
This temporary, activist-art installation and art giveaway provides McNeese visual arts students an opportunity to learn new ceramics techniques and give back to the community.
A limited number of ceramic pieces are available to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information contact Kenneth Baskin at 337-475-5053.
