Write On, Door County will present a conversation between visual artist Marc Anderson and writer Catherine Young on June 14, 10:30 am at M. Anderson Gallery, 44 S. 2nd Ave. in Sturgeon Bay.
The event is part of the Dick Scuglik Memorial Fellowship, which is awarded to a writer working in ekphrasis – writing in response to visual art. The winning writer is paired with a local visual artist. Over a few months, the two exchange work and create new work in response to each other’s art.

Anderson was born and raised in central Wisconsin. He began working as a professional artist while studying illustration at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Anderson discovered the world of plein air painting and, in 2021, was included in the feature “Top 10 Artists to Collect Now” in Plein Air magazine.
Young is a disabled writer and performing artist whose work is infused with a keen sense of place. She wrote the ecopoetry collection Geosmin and the environmental memoir Black Diamonds: A Childhood Colored by Coal. She lives with her family in Wisconsin’s Driftless Area and holds degrees in environmental science and creative writing.
