To celebrate Vaisakhi, we’ve collaborated with visual artist Jag Nagra to create an art-wrapped bus. The colourful bus will be seen around the region to mark Vaisakhi festivities!
About the design: It takes inspiration from the artistry of Rumala Sahibs — the ornately embroidered fabrics found in Sikh Gurdwaras. The unique wrapped bus is covered in bright orange and blue, the traditional colours of Sikhism, and also features a vibrant floral pattern.
What they’re saying: “This has been a dream of mine for years; I’ve always wanted to see my artwork on a bus,” says Jag. “Whether it’s the younger or older generations, I hope they feel a sense of true belonging and pride in their culture when they see this special bus.”
How to see bus: You’ll find it in the Vancouver Vaisakhi parade on Saturday, Apr. 13 and the Surrey Vaisakhi parade on Saturday, Apr. 20. Customers will also have the chance to ride the bus and see it in their community.
About the artist: Jag Nagra is a Pitt Meadows-based visual artist who has public art on display throughout Metro Vancouver in honour of her heritage.
Catch up quick: This marks the second year of TransLink’s Vaisakhi bus after we debuted our first one at last year’s Vancouver and Surrey Vaisakhi parades. Earlier this year, we wrapped a bus for Lunar New Year.
