After a spectacular debut in 2023, “Visible Planets: World-Renowned Rappers and their Visual Art” is back for its second year, promising to be bigger and better! This fusion of music and visual art will run from Aug. 2 to 4, featuring an amazing lineup of new and returning artists, a new concert venue, and a free outdoor jam session. The event offers fans a glimpse into the multifaceted creativity of notable rappers who carry messages of social justice, peace, respect, self-worth, and community. The program includes performances and/or artwork by Georgia Anne Muldrow, Del the Funky Homosapien (art show only), Quelle Chris, Homeboy Sandman (concert only) and his sister Natalie del Villar (artshow only), Deca, Fresh Daily, Oddisee (art show only), Lily Fangz and DJ Felix Fast4ward.
The weekend starts with the opening of an art exhibition at Bitfactory Gallery, 851 Santa Fe Drive in Denver, on First Friday from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 2, where many of the artists will be in attendance to visit with fans. The show highlights the unknown or overlooked visual artistry of participating rap musicians. This event is free and open to the public.
Aug. 3 features a ticketed rap concert at 6 p.m. in the opulent ballroom of the newly renovated El Jebel event center at 17th Avenue and Sherman Street in downtown Denver. This all-ages show will be dense with powerful performances by popular rap artists, food and beverages for sale and a variety of other vendors. A selection of artwork from the exhibition will also be on view at the show. Advance tickets cost $35 and are available for purchase, along with VIP packages, at visibleplanets.com. Tickets cost $40 at the door. Alcoholic beverages will be available to purchase for those over 21 with I.D.
Aug. 4 brings the uplifting vibes to Benedict Fountain Park at 20th Avenue and Tremont Place for a free and open-to-the-public outdoor gathering and jam session from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. led by Georgia Anne Muldrow. Attendees are welcome to watch or participate. This gathering will also feature a free-trade outpost where items can be donated or picked up.
“We are thrilled to bring Visible Planets back again,” co-creator Drossman said. “The overwhelming response to our first event showed us just how fun it is to celebrate and provide a platform for these inspiring artists to express themselves beyond their music. This year, we aim to offer an even more unforgettable experience for all attendees.”
Visible Planets sponsors include Artist Proof Collective, Birdseed Collective, KGNU, Empresario, The Preservatory and Ashley Garrett Photography. Sponsorship and vendor packages are available. Contact Drossman at 917-703-2563 or dandrossmanart@gmail.com for more information.
