Students at Polk County High School recently experienced a unique opportunity to enhance their artistic skills through an artist-in-residence program featuring contemporary visual artist Tate Nation..

During the residency, art teacher Jeff Thomas’s students were immersed in a comprehensive exploration of the elements and principles of art under Nation’s expert guidance. The Charleston-based artist, known for his vibrant and distinctive style, worked closely with students to develop their understanding of artistic fundamentals while encouraging creative expression.

The culmination of the residency saw students producing their own original acrylic paintings, many of which demonstrated remarkable talent and artistic growth. The hands-on experience allowed students to apply newly learned concepts directly to their creative process.

This valuable educational opportunity was made possible through the generous support of the Donald and Peggy Lyons Fund and Unrestricted Fund Grant from the Polk County Community Foundation. The foundation’s continued commitment to arts education has enabled similar enrichment programs that benefit local students.

The artist-in-residence program represents part of Polk County High School’s ongoing efforts to provide students with diverse learning experiences that extend beyond traditional classroom instruction.
