Las Positas celebrates new Academic Support and Office Building | News

“In 2016, voters in Alameda County supported Bond Measure A for the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District by a 65% margin,” CLPCCD Chancellor Ronald P. Gerhard said in a statement.

“The new Academic Support and Office Building is a result of that community investment and allows us to provide state-of-the-art learning spaces to meet the evolving needs of our students,” he added.

Other prominent campus representatives to attend the opening ceremony included Chabot-Las Positas Board President Tim Sbranti, trustees Hal Gin and Stephen Lanza, and Student Trustee Omar Au.

The building comes equipped with up-to-date computer labs, a tutoring center, study areas, classrooms, and a math lab and over 80 faculty offices. LPC representatives said they hope the building will foster an environment of community and act as a space for students to gather or find resources.

The project was awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification for its efficient, cost-saving and green construction process. The LEED recognition is said to honor the building’s environmental, fiscal and social benefits.

Additionally, the college celebrated the completion of its landscape renovation project, a series of outdoor upgrades to the campus landscape.

Designed by Cupples Keller Designs with input from LPC students and college staff, the outdoor space rests at the entrance of the Student Services & Administration Building (Building 1600) and runs to the Multidisciplinary Education Building (Building 2400).

Completed upgrades include a new “Las Positas College” sign, new grass and trees, and outdoor seating areas. Students, staff and community members are welcomed to enjoy the newly completed outdoor area, according to LPC officials.
