20+ artists, free food will highlight upcoming Flint community BBQ

FLINT, MI — When Jeff Skigh was six years old, he cherished a good family barbecue.

He remembers running around without a care in the world, surrounded by his family with good food and good music.

His goal is to bring that back in Flint, and on Saturday, June 29, he will do just that with his second annual event “Live at Carriage Town,” located at 307 Mason Street in Flint.

“This is just kind of something for the people,” said Skigh, who is organizing the event. “We’ll have a plethora of music, artists, fun stuff for kids, food, games.

“I want to bring back that old feeling we all had when we were kids with our families barbecuing and having family over to just have a good time, but with this, it’s the whole community.”

The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and will feature live music, free food and a bounce house for kids.

The Barbecue House will be on site providing free food until supplies run out.

“I don’t want people to feel excluded because they might not have the money, so that’s why I wanted to do something for everybody,” he said.

Skigh has lined up about 20 performers to hit the stage, two comedian acts with BugDudeSmooth and Dee, as well as two DJs — DJ C4 and DJ Chef Nate.

Performers announced include Baybro, King Cashes, Tay Boogie, YSR Gramz, Figga Da Kid Twicee, Daedae Flint, Velly Beretta, BFF, SixOneSixx, RKSTR Billy, Ace Gabbana, G-S Tha Dream, Hakeem, Jae El-Cainen McGhee, Major Motion Boyz, Koolasl, Sway Montoya, Taj, LifenParadise, Taty, RollUpFU and Prod.AwdioJohnson.

Skigh said about 500 people attended the event in 2024, and he hopes to see double that this coming weekend. He also said come out early and come hungry.

Sponsors for the event include Smok Cannabis, Celsius, Chill Medicated, Hyman, T-Mobile, LightSkyFarms, The Loft, The Barbecue House, Burton Cannabis Co., Queens’ Provisions, Dacut and Seed Junky.

Skigh said our parents and grandparents went out of their way to provide safe events for people to enjoy, and it is time for this generation to step up and build the same for future generations.

“We have to put this together and provide for Flint,” Skigh said. “This is the place I was born and raised. A lot of people when they get big move away and try to bring things back for the community. I think you can do it right here from the start, and show young people that it’s possible.”
