A Love Letter to Artists, and Live Performances in Connecticut

My wife Lydia and I had two wonderful experiences over the past month, and we wanted to write a post-Valentine’s Day love letter to the local artists and musicians, and the people who love and support them.

In the past month we’ve attended the World Premiere of the movie Candlewood in New Milford, and a concert by a touring artist – Daphne Eckman – at a private home in Middlebury.

Lydia – Sharing music and art with those you love is the best way to boost vibrations and mood in the world. Take them to a local show, a play, a new exhibit. Concert tickets are so expensive, seeing the brand names we grew up on gets harder and harder. Lacking time and money, we forego a lot of these experiences, but there are so many ways to get it close to home. Our local singers, filmmakers, and artists are fans too, they work in service of the music and artists they love, while putting their own originals out in the world too. I was reminded of this when Andy Atkinson performed at the Candlewood premiere after-party. The movie was made right here, we sat near the director, with actors that we know on the big screen. Afterwards, it was just him and his guitar filling a festive atmosphere with his music. Daphne Eckman wowed us in Middlebury, but the best thing, it was a concert at a private home, and the generosity of our hosts, the Sutherland’s. Their appreciation of this Annapolis, Maryland singer/songwriter led to a performance in their home, and our invite to attend. Consume more music and art from local artists in Connecticut. We forge and cement bonds in our consumption and passion for the arts.

Here are some of the artists and venues that we plan on supporting: Chaser 8, 100 Demons, Woodbury Brewing Company, Space Ballroom, Andy Atkinson, John Fazio, and The Busk Station – Torrington.

Connecticut is an expensive place to live so people here will do just about anything to save a few bucks. This savings hunt makes dollar stores big business in CT and we have no shortage of them. Family Dollar has 32 Connecticut stores, Dollar Tree has 56 locations and Dollar General boasts 71 outlets throughout the State.
There are some items at these stores that will shave a lot of dough off your receipts but experts say you should not trust these stores with all purchases. Reader’s Digest and USA Today have issued alerts to the public listing items you should steer clear of at Dollar Stores, here are 10 of them.
