WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – This season’s After Hours Artwalk kicks off in just one week and for the first time the fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down.
Starting next Thursday, local artists will be setting up events to take place after the Artwalk is over.
Local singers and songwriters are bringing an event that will take place after hours, the goal is to allow those artist to showcase their talent.
“These artists are incredibly talented, incredibly deserving of the recognition they have already gotten and can get through programs like After Walk and the art walk.” Songwriter, Jay Burnam said.
The Afterwalk Artist Series will go hand and hand with the art walk.
Jay Burnam started the spark for this series, where people can come to listen to music they already love or maybe even find a love for new artists and their music.
“That is where Afterwalk was born. This idea of let’s all go to art walk and as it’s winding down, let’s all meet up at different venues around downtown and listen to incredible music here in Wichita Falls.” Burnam said.
After making a post on Facebook about his idea the community rallied behind Burnam, saying that being that push for the community and seeing everyone come together is amazing.
“It is a dream come true. To see, not surprisingly the city rally around this thing. To have two huge talents to kick it off. The hope is to see the city of Wichita Falls build something from the ground up like it always has like it always will.” Burnam said.
Multiple venues reached out after hearing the idea and wanted to participate in the artist series, one of the venues being Backdoor Theatre.
Backdoor is large support of artist on and off the stage, which is why they have opened their venue to the series.
Executive Managing Director Jessica Wood, is looking forward to people coming out and experiencing the idea the Burnam has started.
“Coming together and creating this opportunity and spark this movement of just creating more spaces, for more artists to be exposed and more artists to be heard and listen to. They deserve it everybody puts so much work into their craft so why not offer just one more opportunity here for artists in our community.” Executive Managing Director, Jessica Wood said.
Burnam does not want to take away the magic from the artwalk itself, so they plan to have the series start at 8:45 p.m. allowing the public to enjoy both series and last for an hour.
The first series will be next Thursday, April 4 at Backdoor Theatre, it is free and open to the public.
