Apple Music for Artists Adds Radio Monitoring for 40,000+ Stations

Apple Music for Artists can now track radio spins from more than 40,000 radio stations across the globe. Here’s a peek at the new feature.

Apple says it offers radio monitoring for 40,000 radio stations from more than 200 countries and regions. Radio Spins data is integrated throughout the Apple Music for Artists experience so artists can see which stations and regions are giving their music air time. The Trends page offers more detailed data, such as the stations that are spinning an artists’ music the most, or which songs from an artists’ catalog are receiving the most plays across all monitored stations.

The radio monitoring is powered by Apple’s Shazam music-recognition technology, which Apple acquired in December 2017 in a reported $400 million deal.

Radio spins data will refresh daily, with new data releases or updates taking at least 48 hours to show up on the Apple Music for Artists dashboard. While radio spins on Apple Music for Artists show the data of more than 40,000 tracked terrestrial and digital radio stations it does not include plays on Apple Music Radio. Apple Music Radio spins are grouped into Plays.

Adding radio spins comes after Apple added real-time analytics to Apple Music for Artists last year, giving them an instant look at their fans’ listening habits. The ‘Listening Now’ widget was added to the service in November 2023, giving artists a detailed view of their track trends for the past 48 hours. That feature included ‘Maximum Listeners’ to highlight the top number of listeners in a 48-hour period, while ‘Average Listeners’ highlights the average listeners in the same period. The widget also includes a snapshot of an artists’ top six most played back songs under ‘Top Songs.’

These features bring Apple Music for Artists in closer parity with Spotify for Artists, which is always a good thing.
