Young adults in Douglas and Jefferson counties have an opportunity to apply for a nine-month paid artist apprenticeship with Van Go.
The Arts Train is a part-time employment program for people ages 18 to 24 who are not currently enrolled in school, according to Van Go’s website. TAT artists are paid to create art while they advance their artistry and employability skills.
“Designed to engage disconnected youth, TAT serves young people who have barriers to employment and educational attainment including, but not limited to: living in poverty, mental health diagnosis, aging out of foster care, pregnancy or parenting, court involvement, homelessness, or lacking a high school diploma,” according to the website.
The nine-month apprenticeship includes on-job training and access to Van Go’s wraparound social services. Aimed at helping the artists transition to longer-term employment, artists have an option to be matched with a paid, community-based internship that’s based on their interests after completing the apprenticeship.
Young adults ages 18 to 24 in Douglas and Jefferson counties are eligible to apply.
Applications, which are available on Van Go’s website, are due Monday, Aug. 19 and should be submitted in person at Van Go, 715 New Jersey St. in the East Lawrence arts district.
