Artist’s Journey with Cancer Portrayed in “Most Valuable” Painting

Robin Marshall is an accomplished and well-known media professional, blogger, lead singer, songwriter, over-40 model, and visual artist. She is also a two-time cancer survivor.

The former DJ and on-air talent spent over 45 years working in New York City, America’s number-one-rated radio market. While there, she created Jayne FM, a nationally syndicated radio program targeted to women, and many will recognize her voice from her countless national radio campaigns, such as P Diddy’s fragrance, ‘Unforgivable.”

These days, the Port St. Lucie resident and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native works as a voice artist from her home studio, but she has found another way to share her voice through another outlet. Her wildly bright, oversized paintings can be seen at the Zero Empty Spaces gallery in Jensen Beach, on murals throughout Miami, and even on a wrapped van traveling the streets for Area Regional Transit.

“The Cancer That Runs In My Family” painting by Robin Marshall

One painting, which she describes as “her most valuable,” was recently purchased by her oncologist, Alpana Desai, MD, of Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute. Entitled, “The Cancer That Runs in My Family,” Dr. Desai was inspired by its beauty and underlying message for women to be proactive with vital screenings that can detect breast and gynecologic cancers early, improving their chances for a positive outcome.

“It is the painting that is closest to my heart,” Robin explains. “It represents me and my kids (four daughters and one son) and how cancer has affected us physically and emotionally.” Together the family has supported one another through Robin’s journeys with ovarian cancer (in 2015) and breast cancer, as well as her daughter’s journey with breast cancer.

Robin will donate one-third of the purchase price to the FCS Foundation to be used for research or related programs that are helpful to other patients. On Tuesday, December 12, with Robin present, Dr. Desai placed the artwork in the FCS clinic in Stuart, Florida to share the artwork with patients and clinic staff.

“Life experiences have made me more colorful,” Robin says on her Facebook profile. Now, Robin’s work will inspire and brighten the spirits of FCS patients and family members for years to come.
