A few years ago, a group of artists were invited to exhibit and sell their creations on the porch of the former Florida Artists Gallery in Floral City. The gallery closed, but the artists still gather weekly and will continue their tradition as part of Floral City’s Heritage Days on Saturday, Dec. 2, on the porch of the Zimmerman House, 8441 Orange Ave.
The group, known as artOasis, will show and sell a wide variety of creations – oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings, greeting cards, jewelry, pottery, collages and assemblages. A portion of the proceeds of the sales will be donated to the Duval House Preservation Trust.
ArtOasis consists of Brenda Spilios, Susan Strawbridge, Jeaneine Cole, Michele Wirt, Christine Randle, Ann Covington and Joy Livingston. Works by the late Joi Sampsell will also be available.
The Zimmerman home hosts an exhibit of antique and unusual quilts inside the home and is available with an admission ticket of $10 in advance and $15 on Saturday. Proceeds support the Duval House Preservation Trust.
Heritage Days begins on Friday evening with a fish fry, luminaries lining Orange Avenue called “Candles, Carols and Carriages,” with a wide variety of musicians performing. Mount Carmel Methodist Church will provide barbecue meals and sweet potato pies.
Of special musical note, this year marks the 20th year the band 2PM will appear at the festival. The folk musicians, Pete Price, Peter Hennings and Mike Jurgensen, are top-tier folk musicians known for their harmonies and exceptional musicianship.
At the Floral City Heritage Museum and Country Store, several authors of Florida-themed books will be present to autograph copies of their works.
