Delaporte is the entrancing project by which the Italian-Spanish duo Sandra Delaporte and Sergio Salvi experiment relentlessly with nodes on the outskirts of pop, electronica, and rock. Based in Madrid, the pair are currently prepping for two sold-out shows in the city, their first tour dates in 2024. Consider us quite jealous of the opportunity, especially given that their latest album Aquí y Ahora is a euphoric fever dream of techno splendor.
For those who’ve yet to dive into the sonically galvanizing and perpetually fluctuating soundscapes created by the pair — you’ve just found a new obsession. Across multiple albums and singles, Delaporte has forced collisions of Latin rock, soul, and trap with ecstatic effect. Such a proclivity for evolution was present the moment Sandra and Sergio met in Spain as two solo musicians and performers.
Although some of their first singles were in English, they eventually decided to hold to a strictly Spanish lyricism. Their debut album Como Anoche announced their arrival with thrumming bass (“Algo Baila en Mí”) punctuated with heady electro-pop (“Superman”) — usually in the space of a single song. But this was just the beginning for Delaporte and their bewitching audio concoctions.
In 2020, Las Montañas signaled the rapid outward expansion of the project’s sound and its lyricism. Honing in on a defiant rebuke of oppressive forces like the patriarchy or prejudicial beliefs such as homophobia. The record also firmly relies on the overwhelming waves of emotion generated by electronic music in general, oscillating between a hypnotizing blitz of beats and sleeker pop.
With Aquí y Ahora they’ve once again resurfaced a little farther out than where they first submerged themselves — this time dripping with the dually frenetic and tranquilizing bliss of techno. A club banger front to back every one of its thirteen tracks shudders with industrial-sized bass drops (“Súbete la Radio”), pulsating undercurrents of cascading beats (“Me Siento Bien Post Fiebre en Altai”), and throb toward feverishly shimmering ecstasies (“Peligro Social”). Prepare to be fully enamored, hopelessly spellbound after your first run-through.
