ArtPops: Q & A with Artist Tiesha Harrison

Art collectors best describe the work as fearless, intuitive, bold, inspiring and infinitely expanding.

How did you get started in the art or music world?

In 2019, I started my art career after hosting an art immersive experience where I invited seven poets and eleven artists.

The poets recited their poems while the artists painted how they felt. I felt liberated and knew I wanted to use art as a vehicle to heal, engage, uplift and transform the community.

I attended Milan Art Institute to become proficient in oil painting, drawing, and mixed media techniques through an immersive learning process combining old master’s methods and modern techniques within a year.

I combined my art training, community service, advocacy, and event planning into my art business which has resulted in my involvement in providing many healing art projects across the valley through servant creative leadership.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?

My name is Tiesha Harrison and I AM a Storytelling Abstract Neo-Expressionist Artist who uses art to engage, educate, uplift and transform the community.

My purpose is to incorporate painting and art immersive experiences to evoke vulnerability to connect with art collectors, viewers, aligned corporations and the trauma-informed community. My artwork often includes bold visuals, vibrant concepts, mixed media, collective collaboration and hand-cut collages that create layers of insight within the story.

Art collectors best describe my work as fearless, intuitive, bold, inspiring and infinitely expanding. It is the reflection of the depths of my imagination and life experiences creating dialogue with the masses through visual narratives.

What is your favorite medium?

My favorite medium to use is Mixed Media Collage.

What motivates you to create?

I love the freedom to create and collaborate with my community with intention. I am most motivated by God, Music, Nature, and Storytelling. In addition to my studio work, my artwork bridges communities, brings awareness to important topics like mental health and domestic violence and gives voice to those who have been silenced.

This is my “WHY” and the reason I create. Like a fingerprint; every brushstroke, every color, and every masterpiece is created with INFINITE POSSIBILITIES. I am an Intuitive-wanderer, who is inspired by the integration of life experiences, vulnerability, collaboration, and self-REdiscovery.

What was the inspiration behind the piece selected to be featured as an ArtPop?

I AM “Eternal Truth” was one of my breakthrough art. I wanted to fully embrace my raw Neo-Expressionism style of art which is bold, vibrant, and edgy that fully represents me as an artist. I remember spending about 5 months on this piece, repainting and adding collage pieces to create a strong foundation for my story.

I love how this unexpected composition came to life and how raw this piece is. It reminds me of our fearless attitude when we show up in the world as our AUTHENTIC SELF and my time in New York City.
