“Current paintings I’m working on are all from, like, second hand still life objects. Most of them have some sort of human or animal figurine in them, along with some other like, household objects. I just set up these still lives, and as I’m setting them up, these little kind of narratives or stories, pop up on their own, and then that’s pretty much it. I set up still lives, and then I work from observation. So I just sit and look at these things for hours on end, until I end up with a painting,” said Valerie Escobedo, second place award winner.
The exhibit will remain on display through June 21.
