Attention Crawford artists | Wallkill Valley Times

By Jared Castañeda

Are you an artist from Crawford looking to express your admiration for the community through your craftsmanship? You might be the perfect applicant for the town’s latest project: the Crawford Square Mural, an opportunity for several local artists to illustrate the town’s history, diversity, beauty, and other aspects.

Interested Residents must send an application with concept drawings to Joan Miller, director of the town’s community services, before August 23. The town will review the submissions and choose seven applicants with the best ideas; each artist must then pick up a 4 ft. by 8 ft. composite panel from Seekamp Lumber at 97 Boniface Drive. The applicants will bring their concept drawings to life on the canvases and must submit their pieces to the Crawford Government Center at 121 State Route 203 by September 27 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Following this, the town will award each artist $250 and present their pieces on October 17 in Crawford Square, where they will hang proudly for everyone to see.

To be eligible, the applicant must be a Crawford resident; town employees are not allowed to enter. The application requires proof of residency, a colored design concept that fits the panel’s proportions, a waiver form, and a signature. After obtaining their panels, the seven chosen artists must create original artwork using waterproof materials; the pieces must be suitable for all ages and reflect Crawford’s past, present, and future in some way. Once submitted, the pieces will become the town’s property.

For more information about the project or applying, contact Miller at communityservices@townofcrawford.org or call (845) 744-8230.
