Brownsville calls all artists to take part in public art initiative

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Brownsville is calling all artists for a chance to be a part of its public art initiative.

City officials are encouraging artists to submit their designs to transform utility infrastructure and streetscapes in the area.

“We aim to create spaces that inspire positivity and vibrancy, increasing community presence that will help boost the local economy,” the City of Brownsville stated on its website.

Artists are invited to apply by submitting a design based on the following themes:

  • Culture
  • Downtown Historic Sites
  • Brownsville Innovation
  • Nature Wildlife and Habitat
  • Main City Sites
  • Anchor Institutions

All designs will be evaluated and chosen by the Brownsville Beautification Committee.

The deadline to submit a design is 4 p.m., Friday, June, 7. Designs are expected to be installed around the city by August.

Additional details on the art project are available on the City of Brownsville website.
