Caddo artists will be subject of Fordyce museum talk | Education


The Dallas County Museum in Fordyce is hosting a gallery talk, “Ancient Caddo Artists and Their Descendants,” led by Dr. Mary Beth Trubitt, at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15 at the museum, 221 N. Main Street.

Dr. Trubitt will present pottery and other artifacts in the Native American exhibits at the museum while discussing the people who made and used them. She will also examine contemporary Caddo artists working, creating, and continuing cultural traditions today.

Dr. Trubitt is the Arkansas Archeological Survey’s Research Station Archeologist at Henderson State University, where she teaches anthropology and sociology courses, researches the long history of the people who lived in west-central Arkansas, and works with members of the public interested in archeology and historic preservation.

Her book, “Ouachita Mountains Archeology,” was published in the Survey’s Popular Series in 2019, and her book, “Two Caddo Mound Sites in Arkansas,” was published in the Survey’s Research Series in 2021.
