Carbondale asking local artists to paint murals around town | News

CARBONDALE, Ill. — The city of Carbondale is looking for residents to help beautify the city with artwork.

Carbondale has partnered with Artspace 304 to launch the Welcome, Carbondale! event for spring 2024. The event is part of a continuing program the city has established to add murals throughout the city.

“If you have experience with large-scale mural projects and have a creative vision to share, this is an opportunity for you,” wrote Artspace on its Facebook

Any artist who lives in Illinois or graduated from SIU in Carbondale may apply for the program. Applications must be submitted by April 5 at 11:59 p.m.

Two walls are open for murals — one at 204 Beauty on West College Street and the other at Artistic Mind Tattoos on South Illinois Ave.

Applications for the project opened on Saturday on the Artspace website
