MORGAN’S POINT RESORT — Fifty-one artists submitted 108 entries in the fifth-annual art show Saturday, Nov. 11, hosted by the Mary Ruth-Briggs Library. The art exhibition was held at the Garrett & Mic Hill Event Center in Morgan’s Point Resort.
“The event, which has become a staple in the local cultural calendar, featured a diverse collection of artworks submitted by talented artists from the community,” Esther Weaver, communications and marketing manager for Morgan’s Point Resort, said in a news release.
The winners in each category are as follows:
1st Place – “Green Milkweed” by Judy Lytle-Dillon
2nd Place – “Foggy Landscape” by Caleb Hurst
3rd Place – “Breaking Free” (poem) by Ashley Cochran
1st Place – “Landscape” by Charlotte Dillon
2nd Place – “Tiger Yawning” by Jessalynn Tsai
3rd Place – “Dear Society” (Poem) by Joanna Michelle Stanford
“Foggy Landscape” by Caleb Hurst
The People’s Choice award was a new addition to the art show and its winner Caleb Hurst said he believes it should be a mainstay for future art shows.
“It brings a lot of different personalities and opinions to the judging process. It also helps people become engaged in the art show,” Hurst said.
Judy Lytle-Dillon and her granddaughter, Charlotte Dillon, both received first place in their respective categories, much to their surprise.
“Believe me, at 11, I probably wouldn’t have gotten 20th place,” Lytle-Dillon said.
Pam Robinson, president of the library board, expressed gratitude toward the artists.
“These artists bring so much pride to our community, and it’s heartwarming to see everyone come out in support (of the art show),” Robinson said.
Morgan’s Point Resort resident and chef Lou Guillard served appetizers. Refreshments were provided by donations from volunteers and parent donors of Wilson School of Art.
