Coachella 2024: After Diljit Dosanjh, these 3 Indian-origin artists are going to perform at the Coachella music festival this year

Last year, Diljit Dosanjh put India on the Coachella map. This year, three Indian-origin musicians are set to do the heavy lifting. Coachella 2024, which takes place across two weekends — 12 to 14 April & 19 to 21 April — will feature performances by three Indian-origin artists across the genres of rap, R&B and Indian classical.

Dosanjh scripted history last year by becoming the first Punjabi artist to perform at the festival, whose lineup included other South Asian powerhouses like Ali Sethi, Jai Paul, Jai Wolf and Joy Crookes. The singer-cum-actor’s power-packed performance, delivered in a statement-making black kurta, tamba, turban and sunglasses, included his popular tracks like Lemonade, G.O.A.T., and Patiala Peg that had even American DJ, Diplo, grooving.

Dosanjh’s performance was heavily lauded by his fans across the world, especially when he asked the audience to just “follow the vibe” if they didn’t understand Punjabi, the language he was singing in. Interestingly, he said this in Punjabi as well. Speaking to the Economic Times later, he revealed that at that moment “angrezi ayi hi nai meri bahar (I couldn’t just speak English).”

Following his Coachella debut, Donsanjh went on to launch a new album Ghost and a song collaboration with Australian singer SIA. He also derived a greater fanbase, with his music reaching a whole new audience — the Coachella kind. In Coachella 2024, here are the three Indian-origin artists who are seeking to continue the tradition.

AP Dhillon’s been having quite the year. In August 2023, the Indo-Canadian rapper had a documentary — AP Dhillon: First of a Kind — release on Amazon Prime Video. This was both before, and after his music was busting all the charts, with tracks like With You, Excuses, Dil Nu and of course Brown Munde raking in millions of views and continuing to be played in heavy rotation. The musician will be taking his unique blend of hip-hop, pop, and R&B to the Coachella stage on 14 April and 21 April (both Sundays).
