Call for artists

The City of San Ramon has announced a call for artists as it prepares its gallery schedule for the upcoming year, with the deadline set for Friday (Aug. 9).

The call is open to all artists with both solo and group projects they are seeking to feature. While artists with works previously displayed in the city’s gallery are encouraged to highlight their previous work in their applications, all works selected for next year will be original ones that have not previously been displayed by the city.

More information and applications are available here.

Friday evening shopping

Businesses in downtown Danville are set to expand their open hours on Friday evenings through at least 7:30 p.m. for the remainder of the month as part of the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce’s “Shop, Dine and (see a) Play” campaign.

“This extension allows visitors to explore local small businesses in the historic downtown area before or after dining at a diverse selection of restaurants,” organizers said in an announcement on August 6. “Danville’s historic, tree-lined Downtown is the perfect backdrop for a summer evening stroll, with some of the area’s best restaurants and most unique locally owned shops.”

The extended hours are also aimed at coinciding with the upcoming production of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” at the Village Theatre from Aug. 9 to Aug. 25, produced by SPARC theater following their outdoor run for Livermore’s Shakespeare in the Vineyard.

Volunteer fair

The San Ramon Chamber of Commerce is hosting a volunteer fair as part of its next free Third Thursday Mixer.

The event is scheduled for Thursday (Aug. 15) from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the San Ramon Library at 100 Montgomery St.

Registration and more information is available here.

EBRPD 90th anniversary

The Museum of the San Ramon Valley is set to host a two-week long exhibit showcasing the history of the East Bay Regional Parks District in honor of its 90th anniversary.

The exhibit will include a pop-up display on the parks district as well as the history of the Iron Horse Trail from Aug. 31 to Sept. 15. More information is available here.
