El Paso artist Patrick Gabaldon creates El Paso stickers

Visual artist Patrick Gabaldon stands in front of a mural dedicated to him in Central El Paso. Gabaldon's design has been accepted for the Buy El Paso campaign. He is shown on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020. Gabaldon says he and his wife support local businesses.

El Paso artist Patrick Gabaldon loves stickers.

Usually you can find his stickers for free at his favorite spots. Gabaldon, however, recently decided to make some that people can easily buy. The sticker pack of nine retails for $35 at his online store, at www.gabaldonart.com.

“I consider this set the El Paso set because it’s got some of my personal favorite designs along with some classics,” he said.

Here is the information on his stickers along with his thoughts on their inspiration.

1. The Super Fly: “He’s a springtime favorite of mine and just makes me smile. It’s one that others also love so I wanted him to be available for this set.”

2. Buy El Paso: “This design was done to help encourage locals to support local small businesses. It’s got a silly looking San Jacinto gator without the Franklin Mountains. Real El Paso gente always support local.”

3. Paydirt Pete: “I’m a proud UTEP alum and my version of Pete is often requested by UTEP alumni around the country. I knew that our guy Pete had to be a part of this pack. Picks Up!”

4. Nombre RR: “This roadrunner has made his way into my work over the past year and now he’s finally finding his way into a sticker. He signifies the struggle and resilience of the border while exemplifying the frustration I feel when outsiders try to define what we are and who we are on the border. The roadrunner crosses back and forth through dangerous terrain and remains in the border no matter the walls meant to separate us.”

5. Ozzy: “My love for Locomotive FC is widely known and I’m always working on fun illustrations to show my support. This version of Ozzy the bat might be favorite yet and I can’t wait to make him more of a feature this season. Vamos Locos!”

6. Stay Sharp Claret: “This one features my motto and the beautiful blooms of the claret cup cacti.”

7. Mariachi Gator: “This is an early piece that’s made it to sticker form. Many years ago, we did shirts, pint glasses, and prints with this design and they sold out quick. We haven’t brought him back yet so now seemed the perfect time. The gator is giving its best grito and is singing the beautiful song of the border. His neck is adorned with both U.S. and Mexico flags and he’s got the sun at his back. This image is meant to show others my El Paso pride.”

8. TX star: “My TX shaped stickers are always a favorite of mine and I’m proud to see others slapping these on their water bottles and cars. Many artists around town to TX stickers and I’m proud of my addition to the citywide collection”.

9. BLOOM BRIGHTLY Prickly: We always have this one around and she comes free with every online order at www.gabaldonart.com or in person at my studio. Desert lovers usually dig this one so it had to make its way into the EP sticker pack.
