Four dancers have been named “Emerging Artists” and awarded studio space for 18 months at Arts District Liberty Station.

Joyce Lien Kushner, Sol Dela Rosa, Lexii Regina and Micah Parra received the honor as part of a program by the NTC Foundation, the non-profit organization that oversees the development of 26 buildings at Liberty Station.

“With each dance artist possessing unparalleled skills and creativity, we are excited to see their journey of growth throughout the new year,” said Lisa Johnson, president and CEO of the NTC Foundation.

Kushner, born and raised in San Diego, specializes in modern and contemporary dance. With her residency at Liberty Station, Joyce aims to curate an Asian American dance showcase to champion diverse narratives and foster collaboration. Her vision: nurturing creativity, amplifying underrepresented voices and cultivating an inclusive dance community.

Dela Rosa took summer workshops and classes, then performed professionally for San Diego Dance Theatre in Liberty Station. Now Sol is back to facilitate classes and educational experiences along with presenting some of his own work.

Regina is a multidisciplinary movement artist known for her exploration of storytelling. Utilizing the mediums of acrobatic dance, physical theater, improvisation, modern dance and circus, she creates works exploring mental health and human connections. She plans to develop a variety of short-form and evening length performances and dance films.

Parra, while growing up, was quickly integrated into the circus community, leading her to the San Diego Circus Center and various programs around the region where she honed her acrobatic skills. She hopes to facilitate a space where people learn to appreciate art as an “invaluable tool for healthy expression and human connectivity.”
