CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — EPB is seeking local artists to complete the final portion of the 10th Street Substation murals.

This year’s theme is “The Magic of Unity.”

Until January 31, artists can apply to showcase their artistic capabilities along 10th Street. The murals will be painted on the fourth side of the EPB substation, parallel to Douglas Heights.

Local artists have created murals in this area over the past three years.

“It is our honor at EPB to highlight the immense talent of our community and share important stories and viewpoints through visual arts,” said EPB Director of Environmental Stewardship and Residential Energy Solutions Elizabeth Hammitt. “Over the past few years, the 10th Street murals have given several talented local artists the opportunity to create their very first mural. It is bittersweet to see the completion of the project this year, which has helped launch some local artists’ careers with the opportunity to create their very first murals.”

EPB will be offering a virtual informational session on January 17, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Interested artists may submit at least five samples of their art, write a vision statement and create a visual sketch of their concept.

However, EPB has an age requirement of 18 or older. They want artists who live or work in the EPB service area.

An outside group will select muralists based on artistic value, clarity of thought, community reflection and relevance to theme, EPB said.

ArtsBuild will provide muralists with support if needed. They will also supply a budget and service fee for their work.
