Female Artists Are Dominating the Billboard, ARIA Albums Charts

Move over fellas, female artists are owning the U.S. albums chart right now.

Albums by six different solo female artists appear in the top 10 on the latest Billboard 200 albums chart, dated July 6. That’s the first time women have hit the top 10 for six this decade, and the first time in nearly five years.

Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department leads the way, as it locks up No. 1 for the 10th consecutive week.

Also, LPs by Gracie Abrams (The Secret of Us new at No. 2), Billie Eilish (Hit Me Hard and Soft at No. 4), Chappell Roan (The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess at No. 6) Ariana Grande (Eternal Sunshine at No. 8) and Charli XCX (Brat at No. 9) all nab top tier spots.

The last time six different women (or women-led acts) landed in the U.S. top 10 was on the Sept. 21, 2019-dated chart, with Swift’s Lover (No. 1), Melanie Martinez’s K-12 (No. 3), Lizzo’s Cuz I Love You (No. 6), Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (No. 8), Lana Del Rey’s Norman F—ing Rockwell! (No. 9) and all-women band The Highwomen’s self-titled album (No. 10), according to Billboard.

It’s a similar story on the ARIA Albums Chart, published last Friday. Taylor Swift’s Tortured Poets leads an all-female top four, while sets by Chappell Roan (The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess at No. 7) and Olivia Rodrigo (Sour at No. 10) populate the top 10.

Count them up, that’s six separate female artists landing top 10 albums.

Female artists are beating the boys in the ARIA No. 1 count for 2024, with Taylor Swift (1989 (Taylor’s Version), Midnights, Lover and The Tortured Poets Department), Ariana Grande (Eternal Sunshine), Beyonce (Cowboy Carter) and now Gracie Abrams (The Secret of Us) all clocking time at the top.
