CHICAGO — Chicago’s iconic skyline served as the backdrop for this year’s Gold Coast Art Fair, now in its 66th year.

The first painting was sold within 12 minutes of the fair’s opening and organizers said there are more than 250 artist booths filled with must see creativity along Grant Park’s Butler Field.

“We have artists near and far actually,” said Amy Amdur, Director of Amdur Productions. “Four continents are represented at the festival. We have North America, Europe, Africa and Asia.”

Artists were present left and right Saturday, and one of them — Lidia Wylangowska — Said her work is all about seeing tiny details up close.

“You look at a peeled lemon all your life,” Wylangowska said, pointing out the details in her painting that became the inspiration for this year’s fair poster. “Light hitting the lemon creates kind of a stain-glassy look.”

There were also several pieces by other artists inspired by optical illusions, while other were inspired by life experiences.

“They have to be happy pieces,” said Ancizar Marin, an artist at the Gold Coast Art Fair. “I don’t want my home to be boring. In a home, I want my work to make people smile and be happy.”
