In Kyiv, an exhibition titled “Artists Were Here” will open

On December 21, the exhibition “Artists Were Here” will open at the Avangarden Gallery. It features works created during a 7-day art residency by Ukrainian artists in the Carpathian Mountains.

Fifteen artists from different regions of Ukraine came together in this art residency to contemplate our history as a cohesive whole. Throughout the week, each of them had complete freedom of action and unlimited opportunities to interact with materials, aiming to delve deeper into self-discovery and create their own imprint in time and events.

The exhibition “Artists Were Here” brings together works inspired by nature, the power of the mountains, magical rituals, and stories of molfars about the past. The exposition includes 40 diverse works ranging from naïve and surrealism in painting and graphics to abstraction and symbolism in sculpture, ceramics, and collages.

“This exhibition-reflection is about the very concept of presence and attempts, in the epicenter of events during the war, to find oneself in what inspires, awakens, and gives strength. To create in the future the same trace that will lead to development and revival,” adds Karina Kachurovska, the co-founder of the Avangarden Gallery.

The exhibition will take place at 23a Sichovykh Striltsiv Street from December 21 to January 23.
