The Indiana State Museum is now displaying the work of several Northwest Indiana artists.
The museum at 650 W Washington St. in White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis is now showing “IN the Abstract” in the Ford Gallery on Level Three. It’s hanging the work of Tom Tomluemke from Dyer, Ismael “ISH” Muhammad Nieves from Hammond, Dawn Diamantopoulos from Highland, Jay Zerbe from Michigan City and Bonnie Zimmer from Rensselaer.
The exhibit at the museum on the Indianapolis Canal Walk is on display through June 23.
“Come view the world through the eyes of contemporary artists. Open today in the museum’s Ford Gallery, this compelling new exhibit features the innovative works of more than 30 artists from throughout northern Indiana,” the Indiana State Museum said in a press release. “For many years, this area has been a hub of creativity for abstract artists. IN the Abstract provides a vivid picture of that rich history along with insights from the artists about how their creative processes were influenced by their everyday surroundings in that part of the state.”
The exhibit also features the work of artists from Goshen, Elkhart and Ford Wayne.
The museum also features a number of art, science and history exhibits, including replicas of the L.S. Ayres Tea Room and the facade of Crispus Attucks High School. Exhibits include Ancient Seas, R.B. Annis Naturalist’s Lab, Frozen Reign, First Nations, Natural Regions, The Hoosier Way Gallery, Contested Territory, 19th State, The Hoosier Way, Crossroads of America, Enterprise Indiana, Global Indiana, American Originals, Firefly Landing, the NiSource Gallery and the Lincoln Financial Foundation Gallery.
