Live at the Dahl: Philip Daniel concert showcases Rapid City’s emerging artists | Arts


RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — The Rapid City Arts Council is set to present Philip Daniel live in concert at the Dahl Arts Center for one night only. The event will feature a grand opening act showcasing Rapid City’s Emerging Performing Artists.

Hailing from Lincoln, Nebraska, Philip Daniel is a distinguished pianist and composer known for his ability to evoke powerful emotions through his music. With ten studio albums under his belt, Daniel’s ever-evolving artistry has garnered critical acclaim. Alongside his solo projects, he has built a successful career in film composing, with his evocative scores featured in numerous films and his music streamed over 30 million times.

Daniel now dedicates himself full-time to composing for film and dance. His primary goal as a composer is to create music that deeply resonates with audiences, fostering a unique connection with each listener. He firmly believes in the transformative power of music and is committed to positively impacting his community through his work. Daniel holds a graduate degree in Piano Performance from the UMKC Conservatory and an undergraduate degree in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy from Hastings College.

To open Daniel’s show, local musicians from the Rapid City Arts Council’s Emerging Performing Artists (EPA) program will be showcased. These musicians participate in monthly EPA performances at the Dahl to build their careers as artists. The opening performances will be a true highlight of the evening and a special opportunity for fans to support local talent.

Additionally, through EPA, Daniel will lead a free workshop at the Dahl on Saturday, March 13 from 2-4pm. The event will be held in the John T. Vucurevich Event Center at the Dahl and is open to all musicians, music programs, and arts educators. Daniel’s performance is part of the 2024 “Live at the Dahl” concert series presented by the Rapid City Arts Council. Live at the Dahl showcases diverse and inspiring musical performances, promoting inclusive, innovative, and inspiring arts opportunities for broad audiences. Attendees not only witness musical mastery at its best but also contribute to the Emerging Performing Artist, a free open mic, and mentorship program at the Dahl that nurtures the next generation of local musicians.
