Lubbock Artists Pay Tribute To 13 US Servicemembers Killed In Kabul Attack

LUBBOCK: August 26 marks the grim third anniversary of the Kabul airport bombing, which claimed the lives of 13 US servicemembers and at least 183 others in 2021.

The attack, carried out by an ISIS offshoot, has inspired local artists to honor the fallen heroes.

Former Lubbock City Councilman Randy Christian, moved by his interactions with the families of the victims, wrote the song “Not Forgotten.” Christian described the emotional impact of meeting the grieving families, which fueled his dedication to memorialize their sacrifice.

The song, reflecting the perspective of a grieving mother, was quickly written and highlights the bravery of those who gave their lives in service to the country.

Christian collaborated with local artist Hannah Jackson, who provided the vocals and co-composed the track. Jackson hopes the song will promote unity and emphasize the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by these service members.

Jackson emphasized that the stories of these 13 individuals must continue to be shared, stating, “They may be gone but not forgotten because their stories live on through those of us who are still here.”

Christian and Jackson’s efforts aim to spread love and raise awareness of the courage and sacrifice of those who have served and given their lives for freedom.
