Katasha Peterson, a rising makeup artist from Birmingham, is making an impact on movie screens. “It has always been a big dream for me to work in TV and film and just to be behind the scenes and see how everything goes and the creativity,” Peterson said. Peterson’s film and TV resume is impressive, working on movies like “Just Mercy,” and now, she can add “The Color Purple,” in theaters right now, to her resume.”It’s a memory that I will always hold to my heart,” Peterson said.Peterson says doing the makeup of hundreds of people on set wasn’t an easy task.”We woke up and sunup to sundown. The director is very specific in looks, keeping the look natural. Keeping it the 1900s,” Peterson said.Keeping in mind that she has the support of her family and friends in the Magic City, Peterson remembers what she gave up to get to this point.“A lot of people don’t know that I used to be a social worker for many years, and I just I had to step out in faith and follow my dream of being a makeup artist,” she said.An artist in her right, seeing her work come together on the screen, certainly makes this journey worth it. It was amazing. I am so grateful and honored that I was able to work with them,” Peterson said. “Keep supporting these makeup artists out here. In the world, and not just in the city of Birmingham but in the world, because it is not an easy job.”
