MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Library Foundation is hosting a fundraiser on Friday, May 17 to raise money to help improve Memphis libraries.

An Evening with Matt and Gene is an opportunity to meet legendary comic book artists Matt Wagner and Gene Ha.

Matt Wagner has worked on Batman comics and is the creator of Mage and Grendelwhile Gene Ha’s work can be seen in Wonder Woman: Historia.

Christine Weinreich of the Memphis Library Foundation said the library foundation often does author events, but this is the first time they are doing one with a comic book creator.

Weinreich said most of the budget for the 18 different Memphis Public Library system is provided through the city’s operating budget, but anything that is creative or tailored to meet a specific community need has to be funded through private donations.

The event will take place at Black Lodge from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here, and you can get a discount if you buy them online.

The Memphis Public Libraries Comic Con will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library. Activities will include trivia, a children’s story time and cosplay contest.
