MONCHES — Local artists in the tiny historic community of Monches are celebrating their 41st annual holiday driving tour Dec. 1-3. Once a year, these artists open their studios to the public to showcase their techniques and offer handmade gifts for sale during the holidays.
According to a recent release, the tour will consist of four studio stops, food and beverage spots, and a bonus fifth stop on Saturday at St. Teresa of Calcutta Church — located at W302-N9583 O Neil Road in Hartland — where additional artists showcase their wares in the church.
Alongside returning artist Janet’s Jewels, which is located at 1169 County Road K in Hartford and features a variety of handmade glass and silver jewelry, many other artists will join the tour this year.
Featured artists, locations, and attractions include:
■ Fat Turtle Confections, N91-W29113 Center Oak Road, Hartland: handmade chocolates
■ Krauski Art Glass, W302-N9493 County Highway E, Hartland: Raw glass, tools, and collectible holiday ornaments.
■ Monches Mill House, W301-N9430 County Road East, Hartland: various artists; a potter, wood sculptor, beekeeper, and more.
■ Ox and Cats Sports Bar and Grill, W302-N9510 County Highway E, Hartland: Hand-tossed pizza, hot sandwiches, salads and a full drink menu “We are excited to host the 41st annual event and open our studios and shops to the public,” said Janet Libbey, owner of Janet’s Jewels, in the release. “We have people coming from as far away as Iowa and Illinois annually to drive the tour.”
In addition to her glass and beaded jewelry, Libbey has expanded her trade to include blown and fused glass, as well as handmade fine silver jewelry. She will be offering her sparkling Christmas tree and snowmen earrings that sell out every year.
Bob Blue, owner of Fat Turtle Confections, hand blends and roasts every piece of chocolate he makes.
“My free samples are worth the drive,” said Blue in the release. “Your taste buds will thank you.”
