I’ve been really fortunate over the years to have been able to do some incredible things professionally, like have bbq backstage with Garth Brooks before a concert, to working with some really amazingly talented people, like Academy Award winning local artist and author Bill Joyce.
When Moonbot Studios was located in the Intertech Science Park Building on Kings Highway, I also had a voice-over studio located in the same building, and had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented, most creative artists, illustrators, and writers in the industry. And one of those is local artist and author Bill Joyce.
Bill and his creative partner Brandon Oldenburg won the Academy Award for their animated short film “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.” They also created an award-winning iPad app, along with local artist Joe Bluhm, that accompanied the film, which was narrated by yours truly. What an amazing honor.
But Joyce has kept busy since placing his Oscar on his mantle… with new projects coming up, including two new children’s books, “Rocket Puppies,” and “Glitter Kittens,” as well as something that might surprise a lot of people… a horror movie. Joyce recently told KEEL News:
The other thing I’m working on, along with several other things… but the thing I’m excited about for Shreveport, because I’m going to film it here… is a horror movie called “Shadows Come.” It’s set in Shreveport in 1957 on Halloween night, and.. complications ensue…”
But in addition to the many projects on his drawing board, Joyce recently unveiled his latest creation, the newest Louisiana “I Voted” sticker.
“This felt like a shot at doing something that for one day would really make a difference,” he says. “And not only in people’s lives but then in their lives long after that, how that vote ends up mattering.”
The sticker features a crawfish sporting a suit and top hat, and is named Mark D’Ballot.
“I wanted it to be something that caught your eye and made you go, ‘Oh, cool! Oh, they voted! And I want to, too!’” he says.
Despite his impressive resume, Joyce said he thinks the “I Voted” stickers are the most important thing he’s ever worked on because the impact is immediate and far-reaching.
“And I’ll be a part of democracy!” he explains. “It’s like… I don’t know, what’s the downside?”
The stickers will be handed out to people who vote in the fall election.
