An annual celebration of local art will mark a decade in Palm Beach County starting this month.

The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County’s Biennial exhibition is April 11 to June 20 at the organization’s Lake Worth Beach headquarters, 601 Lake Ave.

The juried show includes pieces from 17 artists who live and work in Palm Beach County, the Cultural Council said in a news release.

All work that is part of the show will be on sale with most proceeds going to the artists.

“While each work stands on its own, themes of abstraction, surrealism, and the realistic representation of native Florida suffuse the exhibition,” Jessica Ransom, director of artist services for the Cultural Council, told the Daily News. “As in any survey of artwork, this exhibition speaks to our specific time and place as envisioned by artists. From artists who have never shown in our galleries to artists who have been working and exhibiting in the community for years, we are proud to showcase each of their works.”

The Cultural Council received 565 submissions from 152 artists for this year’s Biennial, with submissions juried by its guest curator, Los Angeles-based gallerist Tim Hawkinson.

“I’m really pleased with how good the selected works feel to me,” Hawkinson said in the news release. “I didn’t have any set criteria in the process. The final group of artworks in the show has a little bit of everything, but among them is a distinct thread of surrealist sensibilities through many works that I only noticed after the fact; it ties those pieces together in an interesting way. I’m very much looking forward to people seeing it all.”

Hawkinson has “a distinctive eye” that recognizes the high caliber of the work on offer in Palm Beach County, Ransom said.

Artists featured in Biennial 2025 are Asandra, George Bayer, Jerilyn Brown, Maximo Caminero, Jacques de Beaufort, Fiona Drummond, Rod Faulds, Yvonne Fok-Gundersen, Mark Forman, Paul Gervais, Irina Grimaldi, Nestor Guzman, Todd Lim, Hodaya Louis, Debra Robert, Nadine Saitlin and Amauri Torezan.

“With a range of mediums and perspectives, this year’s Biennial highlights the talents of many emerging and established creatives here in Palm Beach County,” Ransom said.

Prizes include Best of Show, Second Place and Third Place, which will be announced during the Biennial’s opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 10.

A People’s Choice prize also will be awarded, based on votes from visitors to the exhibition. Those votes will be tallied one week before the exhibition closes, the Cultural Council said in the news release.

The opening reception at the Cultural Council’s headquarters is free with light bites, drinks and a performance from local musicians Cris and Alex. Registration is required via email at rsvp@palmbeachculture.com or phone at 561-472-3341.

Hawkinson will present a lecture, “Navigating the Art Market,” at 2 p.m. April 12 at the Cultural Council to help artists learn more about how to establish relationships with gallerists and collectors, participate in art fairs and navigate contracts.

Admission to the exhibition is free and it is open noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the Cultural Council’s headquarters. For more information, go to palmbeachculture.com/biennial.
