Salida Council For The Arts Announces More Dec. Events, Special Creative Mixer – by Ark Valley Voice Staff


The Salida Council for the Arts has a busy month of art-related happenings on the calendar. A curated listing for the first part of December follows here, to help get the month off to a great start.

On display through Dec. at the SteamPlant Paquette Gallery

The Paquette Gallery will be featuring the work of Emily Moody through the month of December, located prominently in the lobby of the SteamPlant Theater, 220 W. Sackett Ave. in Salida. The gallery is open for viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday-Friday and during events. Admission is free and open to the public.

Moody’s art exhibit, “Quintessence” is now on view, self-described as a journey into the imaginative and transformational world of Visionary Art.  “Ignite your inspiration through vibrant colors, energetic expression, and the visual blending of worlds,” invites Moody.

 

 

Open House on First Street at Sage Mountain Gallery, Saturday Dec. 2

You’re invited from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to 114 East First St. in Salida to look at a sun-filled new gallery in town. Works include photography, acrylic on birchwood, fiber, jewelry and more. After you’re finished there, check out the other Fine Arts on First, from E Street to G Street.

Winter Farmer’s Market has art, craft, and food at the Scout Hut on Saturday Dec. 2

By now, looking at all the art on First (and don’t forget F and Lower  (North) F Street) will likely make you hungry. Make a circle trip of it by dropping down to Sackett Avenue and heading east to the Scout Hut in Riverside Park. From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on three Saturday’s (Dec. 2, 9, and 23) the popular Winter Farmer’s Market returns to the Scout Hut.

Local artists, crafters and jewelers offer amazing art and useful creations. AND, food is art too!  Farmer’s Markets feature an array of the freshest local foods available, including treats like fresh fruits and veggies, pastries and breads, meats, eggs, cheeses, and prepared foods served on site.

It’s a great way to get to know your food producer, take the chill off, and gather strength for more wandering in Salida’s Creative District. Come early for the best selection.

HRRMC Artist Reception, Dec. 6 at SteamPlant Ballroom

From 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wed. Dec. 6 Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) will host a reception at the SteamPlant for the artists whose work was featured in the hospital’s rotating art exhibits in 2023. The reception will feature work from local artists John Hegstrom, Jude Silva, Mary Leslie, and Sally Mather.

The reception will be catered by area favorite Kalamata Pit Catering, is open to the public, and free of charge.

Creative Mixer on Dec. 14 is not to be missed

The monthly Creative Mixer at the Steam Plant Paquette Gallery is always fun and this month is extra special. From 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. art patrons will be treated to  a triple treat.

Colorado Theater in Non-traditional Spaces (TINTS) is the proud sponsor of the December Creative Mixer which will include a short performance by local actors Leslie Matthews and Nate Warner, who will perform a scene from “Last of the Red Hot Lovers”, directed by Greg West.

Musical guest Joan Lobeck will play holiday favorites, art by Emily Moody will be on display, and homemade refreshments from Greg West are sure to disappear quickly.

The Salida Regional Library  at 405 E Street will exhibit the work of artist Bryan Kyle.

Collegiate Peaks Realty at 139 West First Street will feature the artwork of David Drake, “Colorful Abstractions.”

The Salida Council for the Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax ID# 43-1990391. Their mission is to enrich the cultural life of our community by nurturing and supporting the arts; to increase the community’s awareness of and appreciation for the arts; to promote and encourage arts education; and to serve as liaison between the arts, business, government, and educational institutions.
