SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Artists with the Shreveport Pastel Society are reuniting after a three-year hiatus, and are showcasing artwork again.
On July 20, from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m., at The Glen Retirement Center, 403 Flournoy Lucas Road, the Shreveport Pastel Society will be hosting a reception for its current exhibition, Artists of the Summer.
The exhibit features 10 of the Shreveport Pastel Society’s members’ work, with over 20 pieces being rotated throughout July and August. The artists originate from various backgrounds from classically academic-trained to self-taught and work in various mediums including pastels.
The Shreveport Pastel Society was founded in 2005 during a workshop led by an internationally known pastel artist Alan Flattmann of Covington, Louisiana.
Pastel has been used since the Renaissance era with Edgar Degas and Mary Cassatt, historically the most well-known artist using the medium. Pastel consists of a powdered pigment and binder that can be found in various forms, from pencils to pans.
“This is sort of a “reunion” show, as we have not had the chance to show as a group since 2021, you will actually get to view different media in addition to pastel as our artists are proficient in many different types of media, not just pastel,” Ginger Briggs, show director with the Shreveport Pastel Society.
The exhibition will be available to view at The Glen Retirement Center until September 5.
