ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — The Sketchbook Club in Asheville is a gathering for sharing and collaborating on drawings while developing a consistent sketchbook.
“I have been hosting this Sketchbook Club for over a year now,” host Spencer Beals said. “It’s a place for different artist to come together and to collaborate, and to learn about other artists, and have other conversations about art.”

One recent Monday night, they talked about the Okefenokee Swamp in south Georgia, which is facing a proposed titanium mine. They brought in two people from the nonprofit Defenders of Wildlife, who shared direct actions that can be taken.
Then, they transitioned into a conversation about Chris Jehly, an Asheville artist, and the role of the artist in relation to defending public lands.

If you want to come to the class, you just have to show up! The club meets the first and third Monday of every month from 6-8 p.m at the Foundation Studios in the River Arts District.
“You don’t need to do any initial sign-up. You just need to come with a sketchbook, some art supplies,” Beals said. “The class is only $10, and then just sit down and appreciate community and art.”
