Police officer who graduated from Syracuse University killed in line of duty: Jamieson Ritter, a 27-year-old native of Upstate New York, was shot and killed early Thursday in Cleveland, Ohio, while serving a felony warrant. Ritter was a four-year veteran of the Cleveland Division of Police. He is originally from Webster, a community just east of Rochester, and is a 2019 graduate of Syracuse University.

Syracuse artist’s painting makes three-decade journey to mayor’s office: A watercolor painting of Syracuse City Hall is back where a prolific street artist created it more than 30 years ago. Former Onondaga County residents Karen and Phillip “Bucky” Winters traveled from their Virginia home to Mayor Ben Walsh’s office to present the city an original painting of the historic downtown building done by Betty Munro. Munro was a well-known local artist who created more than 200 watercolors of buildings, scenes and landscapes in Central New York from the 1970s into the 1990s.

Man shot in both legs on North Side of Syracuse: The 29-year-old man is expected to survive, police said. At 5 p.m., a 911 caller reported a person had been shot on Greenland Drive, according to dispatches from the Onondaga County 911 Center.

Looking Ahead

More celebrations to come: Just because it’s the July 5 doesn’t mean the festivities are over. We know of at least nine more times that’s there will be fireworks in Central New York before the weekend is over.

Oshae Brissett leaves Canadian Olympic team camp: The former Syracuse forward left training camp to spend more time focusing on NBA free agency. Brissett, who last month won an NBA championship with the Boston Celtics, requested to withdraw from camp, according the Canada Basketball.
