Tattoo Artist Accidentally Inks Her Own Face When Drawing Backfires

In the heart of Brno, Czechia, a young tattoo artist’s minor accident has turned into a viral sensation, sparking a broader conversation on the permanence of ink and the art of tattoo care.

The tattoo artist and full-time media student, Maja (@hektolitrykafe), had tattooed a tiny dot on her own face, a mistake that quickly captured the imagination of viewers worldwide through a TikTok video that has been viewed more than 5.2 million times in less than two weeks.

Viewers watched as Maja, who’s keen to keep her full identity private, showed off the tiny black tattoo that could easily be mistaken for a beauty spot.

“Imagine being tattooed for the first time and your tattoo artist suddenly sticks the tattooing needle to her face. I’m that tattoo artist,” Maja said in the post. “Thought it was kinda funny yesterday.”

“I’m handpoke tattoo artist,” Maja told Newsweek.

“Most of the time, I’m tattooing without the machine, only with a needle. While I was tattooing I stummed in the light that was right next to me. I was afraid that it’s falling so I tried to catch the light, but I didn’t realize that I have the needle in my hand,” Maja said.

“And how do I feel about my new tattoo? That’s quite funny, because it has almost disappeared,” she added.

Maja had jokingly captioned the post: “If you haven’t notice, sometimes I’m very dumb.”

How Should You Care for a New Tattoo?

And if you have a new tattoo, just what should you do? Tattoo aftercare is crucial for ensuring the longevity and vibrancy of any tattoo. Experts recommend a regimen that includes keeping the tattoo clean with gentle soap, applying a mild moisturizer, and protecting it from the sun. Especially in the early stages, avoiding pools, saunas, and excessive sweating can prevent infection and color fading.

The viral story from Brno not only showcases the unpredictability and charm of tattoo art but also highlights the importance of aftercare. Whether a tattoo is planned with precision or the result of a fleeting mistake, the care it receives can make all the difference in its enduring beauty.

It’s essential to keep the area around a new tattoo clean and moisturized. Gently wash the tattoo with soap and water, then apply a thin layer of moisturizer. Avoid exposing the tattoo to direct sunlight, and refrain from swimming or soaking the area. Wear loose clothing to prevent irritation.

Following these steps could help ensure your new tattoo heals properly and retains its color and detail. Always follow the specific aftercare instructions provided by your tattoo artist, as advice can vary depending on the tattoo’s location and size.
