Tivoli Artists Gallery and Sustainable Hudson Valley present a new spring exhibition | Local Announcements

TIVOLI — The Tivoli Artists Gallery (TAG) and Sustainable Hudson Valley are present a new spring Exhibition Our Only Planet: Art for Sustainability! with an opening reception 5-7 p.m. April 27 at Tivoli Artists Gallery, 60 Broadway Tivoli.

The environmentally themed exhibit will feature images that highlight the urgent need to protect our planet and its inhabitants. There is no Planet B! For this very special exhibition we have partnered with Sustainable Hudson Valley and proceeds from the event will be provided to TAG and SHV. Sustainable Hudson Valley’s mission is to speed up, scale up, jazz up and leverage progress against climate change, creating communities where people and nature thrive.

TAG member artists as well as other local artists will display two and three dimensional artwork in a variety of mediums and materials including repurposed, recycled and found objects. Our Only Planet will feature themes depicting the beauty of the environment and the life it holds as well as a reminder of the losses we are experiencing as the planet changes due to human influences.

In addition to the exceptional artwork, there will be a number of workshops offered to the public as follows:

Foraged and Found — Homemade ink-making for beginners (for adults) With Roberta Zwiemba 10-11:30 a.m. May 4. This hands-on workshop will teach you how to create drawing ink from natural materials. From acorns to invasive weeds, the possibilities are endless. Participants will also have time to draw and experiment with pre-made inks.

Nature Journaling (for adults and children) with Wendy Hollender 1:30-4 p.m. May 5. Nature journaling combines science and art to help you slow down, observe, and interact creatively with the natural world. In this workshop, we will use all our senses to develop illustrations, words, diagrams and numbers to inform and share our experiences in nature.

Upcycled Art (for children) with Peggy Farrington 10:30 a.m. May 11.

Panel—Climate/Creative Roundtable at 2 p.m. May 18. TAG will host Climate/Creative, a conversation on climate action in our region. Speakers will include: Melissa Everett, PhD, Executive Director of Sustainable Hudson Valley; Dorna Schroeter, Biomimicry Mentor, Sustainability Educator & Author of the series, How An Idea From Nature Changed Our World; Andrew Willner, Principal, Sustainability Solutions. Andrew has been a city planner, furniture designer, sculptor, boat builder, environmentalist, Permaculturist, Transition advocate, story teller, and blogger; Paul Fletcher-Hill, tech founder, former programmer and enthusiast of the optimistic, climate-focused sci-fi genre called Solarpunk.

The Our Only Planet exhibition will be open all weekends between April 26 and May 26. Gallery hours are 5-8:30 p.m. Friday; noon-8 p.m. Saturday; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
