Two Georgia musical acts nominated for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2025


Let the voting commence: The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame unveiled the 2025 nominees Wednesday morning. And it’s a powerhouse lineup — packed with legends, game-changers and icons, all set to rock the vote.

Among the 14 hopefuls to gain entry into the storied institution are eight first-timers, most of them with rock as their musical anchor. To be eligible for a nomination, the artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years before the year of nomination.

Georgia has two artists or acts that are up for nomination.

Who was nominated for the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

Here are the 2025 nominees.

  • Bad Company – United Kingdom
  • The Black Crowes – Georgia
  • Mariah Carey – New York
  • Chubby Checker – South Carolina
  • Joe Cocker – United Kingdom
  • Billy Idol – United Kingdom
  • Joy Division/New Order – United Kingdom
  • Cyndi Lauper – New York
  • Maná – Mexico
  • Oasis – United Kingdom
  • OutKast – Georgia
  • Phish – Vermont
  • Soundgarden – Washington
  • The White Stripes – Michigan

The artists making the list for the first time are Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy IdolManá, Outkast and Phish, USA TODAY reported.

Who are Outkast?

Duo Big Boi (Antwan Patton) and Andre 3000 (Andre Benjamin) are considered one of rap and hip hop’s most influential groups of all time.

Formed in Atlanta in 1992, the group produced six studio albums before going separate ways in 2007. The producers of albums like ATLiens and Stankonia had four albums reach No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 while Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, a 2003 release with the cross-genre hit Hey Ya, reached No. 1.

Three of its albums reached the top spot on Billboard’s U.S. R&B charts.

Who are the Black Crowes?

Led by brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, who have had their creative difference through the years, the Black Crowes were formed in Atlanta in 1984.

With hits like Hard to Handle, Jealous Again, Twice as Hard and She Talks to Angels, the group’s debut album Shake your Money Maker put them on the map as a force in Southern Rock.

The band has sold more than 30 million albums in its career.

Which Georgia bands and artists are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

  • 1986 – James Brown; Ray Charles; and Little Richard
  • 1988 – Otis Redding
  • 1995 – Allman Brothers Band
  • 1996 – Gladys Knight and the Pips
  • 2002 – Brenda Lee
  • 2007 – R.E.M.

When will be inductees be announced?

Inductees will be announced in late April after an international panel of over 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals cast their votes. The selection criteria include an artist’s impact on other musicians, the scope and longevity of their work, innovation and excellence in technique.

The artists honored in three special nominee categories – musical influence, musical excellence and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award – will also be announced in April

This year’s ceremony will take place in the fall in Los Angeles, with ticket and location details to be announced.
